Creative Kids

There has been a lot of creativity going around in this last month or so. The kids are getting old enough so they can work on projects they find in craft books on their own. Here are a few of their recent projects:

This first one is a house they made for their chicks. You will notice the eating area, external sleeping quarters and mailbox. We even put cellophane on the windows and made tissue curtains.

Peshastin Pinnacles

We went on a hike a couple weeks ago up to the Peshastin Pinnacles just about 15 minutes from our house. There are lots of neat rock formations and nesting sites for birds. They birds dart all about seeming to catch bugs around the rocks. It is quite steep in some places so my "mountain goat" boy made me a bit nervous. We just love getting out into creation and see the many fascinating ways God shows His handiwork. It was particularly amazing to see how the rocks just jut right out from the earth.

A good day

I truly enjoy days like today when homeschooling goes well with generally happy and diligent kids. New concepts are grasped and we are not cramming to get everything done so we can get out the door to some appointment or other. A major reason I like to homeschool is to avoid the constant rush rush that I see all around me. The pleasure of a day well spent with my precious kiddos is a wonderful blessing.

One thing we also did today was reread a short, but delightful book called A Grain of Rice. It's a simple story of a poor man who desires the king's daughter, but is told he is not worthy. He cleverly works hard and achieves the status required through a surprising mathematical principle.

Why blog?

I'm not totally sure the answer to that question. I guess I just know how much I've appreciated the different blogs I read and hope to impart some bit of helpful information to others. Another reason is that I am often asked about homeschooling or resources so I wanted to have a place where I can have everything available to anyone at anytime. And lastly, I know my mom will love having a place to see more pictures and know what's going on in my life. :)

One thing to explain...I've disabled the comments section. I did that because I know two things...one, I become overly focused on that type of thing; and the other, I really don't have time to respond. If you know me personally and would like to email me, please feel free to do that.
