I wanted to highlight a favorite series of ours that is allegorical in nature (similar to Pilgrim's Progress). The Terrestria Chronicles is a seven book series that follows the adventures of Josiah from his bondage to Argamor till the Final Battle. There are many wonderful word pictures about the Christian life and struggles we all face. Young kids will enjoy it as a read-aloud, but probably won't get much of the symbolism. Older kids could read it on their own, but I think it is best read in a family setting where the parents can bring out points they would like to discuss (and they'll enjoy it also).
