Mary Jones and Her Bible

We are actually on the last chapter of this book...somehow it keeps not getting read, but that's what happens in summer isn't it?!?!??! Regardless, this has been a sweet, God-honoring book. It's basically about a young girl, Mary, whose chief desire is to be able to have a Bible of her own. She has been born into a poor family and has to find both a way to learn how to read and then how to purchase a bible. Mary's help around the house is also a priority so she learns to read and makes a few pennies here and there over the years in her limited spare time. After 6 years, she finally has enough to purchase her dear bible, but is there one available? That's the burning question as she walks 13 miles by foot to where bibles have been sold in the past. It is just an amazing story of a girl who loved the Lord and desired to own His Word at whatever cost to herself. Revolutionary thought in our American church culture where we have multiple Bibles in each home, many of which are collecting dust. Good to help your children see how one girl valued God's word and the preciousness of it.
